Panama Mora (Facing Birds)
What is Mola?
Mola is an ethnic costume worn by the women of the Kuna people, an indigenous group living in the San Blas Islands of Panama in Central America and the Caribbean.
The fabric itself is also sometimes called Mola.
Mola is an ethnic handicraft made entirely with needle and thread, without the use of any machinery such as sewing machines or knitting machines.
About the Product
This is a meticulously crafted Mola with two base fabrics, black and red.
The design features a bird motif, with many colorful fabrics used to create a symmetrical bird in vibrant hues.
A distinctive feature of this Mola is the exquisite use of red and black colors. In particular, the unique swirling pattern of the red Mola has a consistent line width, making it a wonderful piece that you won't get tired of looking at.
Furthermore, the bird's feathers are carefully finished with fine blanket stitches, showcasing the excellent quality of Panamanian Mola.
Purchased locally in 2015.
