THE MANY LIVES OF THE LYNX: A Century of Mining on Lynx Creek Between 1863 and 1963 By Alvina N. Potter | Illustrations by Effie Andrews SIGNED / INSCRIBED 1964 REVISED EDITION — privately published by the author in Prescott, Arizona. A scarce piece of Arizona mining history and Western Americana, documenting a century of mining along Lynx Creek—from the Walker Party's 1863 gold discovery through the development of one of the Bradshaw Mountains' important placer-mining districts. Potter's history was built from original journals, diaries, letters and interviews with Arizona old-timers, preserving firsthand material and local history that can be difficult to find elsewhere. This is the expanded 1964 revised edition, approximately 50 pages longer than the earlier edition. Potter's work has continued to serve as a reference for later Arizona historical scholarship, and her research on the Lynx Creek/Walker mining community was discussed in Arizona Highways. SIGNED / INSCRIBED: Inscribed by the author: “With best wishes — Alvina Potter.” PROVENANCE: Includes a handwritten family provenance note on an orange card connecting this copy with descendants of families documented in the history. Owner's name, Wanda Markham, appears in pen at the top of the gifting-note page. Both are shown in photographs and remain with the book.
