This inkstone is made in Katsuayama, Maniwa City, Okayama Prefecture, using a black slate called Kamba Stone (Takada Stone), which is produced in the mountains near the scenic Kamba Falls in Takehara, Maniwa City. The rock layer is only about 1.5 meters wide, and rare, uniform quality stones are selected from this to make the inkstones.
It is also said that the famous swordsman Miyamoto Musashi favored Takada inkstones during his dedication to calligraphy and painting.
